191201 | Hayle has again achieved excellent results in the South West in Bloom competition 2019 | Hayle Pump
Hayle has again achieved excellent results in the South West in Bloom competition 2019. The S.W. awards were presented at the ceremony, held in Newquay, in early October.
This year, we were, again, entered in the Preece Cup competition, which is based on assessments made for Hayle overall, and there were also 21 entries in the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ judging, for specific projects and developments.Chair Richard Barber was delighted, if not a little surprised, that Hayle was awarded Gold Standard overall in this year’s Preece Cup.
Two notable pieces of feedback from the judges were :
‘’All those involved in Hayle in Bloom are to be congratulated for their efforts and we are sure that with some lessons learnt from this year they can look forward to continued success’’ and:
“It was evident throughout the tour that the community is heavily engaged and involved with the projects and various sites that we visited’’
Also noteworthy, is the fact that
the Isis Gardens were assessed as Outstanding and judges commented on ‘the good working partnership between volunteers, led by Paul Clark, and Cormac, the Grounds Contractors’. Paul was delighted with the judgement and is proud that the Gardens were awarded the ‘Bruford Rosebowl’ for the best overall horticultural display in the South West that is non-municipal. He feels that the Gardens are one of the town’s focal points and need to look good throughout the year.
A big ‘Well Done’ and ‘Thanks’ to everyone in Hayle who has helped in all sorts of ways, big and small, to make the town look good, again, in 2019.
Whilst writing about awards, we would like to offer our sincere apologies to Mr. David Haining. It was, indeed, he who was runner-up in this year’s Bloom Residential Garden Competition and not the mysterious Mr.Gregg, as published in the previous Pump.
We are pleased to report that ‘Friends of the Towans’ are currently constructing a small garden at the southern end of the Memorial Walk, opposite the café. It will contain sand-based soil, suitable for plants that are ‘native’ to Hayle Towans. Completion is due next
spring. The garden will promote the valuable work undertaken by the Friends in managing and protecting our Towans landscape.

The next monthly meeting is on 27th January, 2020 at 7.00 pm. In Passmore Edwards Institute.
