A man has been hospitalised and two people arrested following a crash in a Cornwall town centre.

Police were called to a two-car crash in Fore Street, Hayle, at around 10pm on Wednesday (October 7).

It was initially reported as a hit-and-run incident, as one of the vehicles was said to have left the scene.

A man was taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital with arm and facial injuries.

The second vehicle was then located and a man aged 22, as well as a 19-year-old women, were arrested. They have since been released under investigation.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "This was initially reported to have involved two vehicles with one of them said to have left the scene.

"One vehicle had collided with a lamppost and a building. Its male driver, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital in Treliske with arm and facial injuries which were described as not being life-threatening or life-changing. He has since been discharged.

"The suspected second vehicle was subsequently located.

"A 22-year-old man from the Penryn area was arrested on suspicion of driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving without insurance, and possession of Class A and B drugs.

"A 19-year-old woman from the Falmouth area was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class B drug.

"Both have been released under investigation while enquiries continue."
