CHILDREN'S HOSPICE SOUTH WEST:

Cornwall is fortunate to have its own Children's Hospice. This is a facility that offers respite, emergency and end of life care to sick children and their families. At Little Harbour, Porthpean these families receive the support badly needed when coping with the everyday trauma of caring for a very sick child.

It costs over £1.5 million a year to fund the Children's Hospice at Porthpean and many children from West Cornwall spend time there enjoying the fun and laughter while parents can relax and rest knowing the family is in the care of experienced staff. The end of life care continues while the families feel they need the support no matter how long.

If you feel you could help to support the fundraising team to maintain this wonderful charity and would like to contact one of the Hayle Friends Group please call Mary 01736 754342.or Little Harbour 01726  871 800.

HAYLE ROTARY CLUB:

Members of the Hayle club welcomed John Farrell Deputy Manager of the St. Ives National Coastwatch Institution who gave an in depth talk on almost 20 years of volunteers keeping a visual and listening watch of the bay and coastline from Land's End to Trevose Head some 27 miles away.

A legal watch is kept of all coastal activities and local weather conditions which is passed on to those at sea.  Watchkeepers keep a visual watch,

monitoring radio channels and provide a listening watch in poor visibility.  To improve the cover within the Bay and Hayle in particular area where there is a greater requirement with both the leisure and commercial activities increasing the NCI intends to give more security to the Estuary by placing monitoring equipment at the Towans.  Members agreed to make a donation to this valuable local charity which benefits all who use or enjoy the view.

Last weekend members friends and fellow Rotarians from five other Rotary Clubs celebrated with President Brian Hattam PHF the Hayle President's

Night at the West Cornwall Golf Club.  A superb evening was enjoyed with great fellowship followed by an excellent meal and a superb presentation by

young guest Eva Edgeworth who gave an inspirational and moving talk on "the Eradication of Polio". With this in mind the President's raffle funds held on the evening will be shared between Polio eradication, the Youth of Hayle and the Day Care Centre.  Next fund raising event is the ever popular Beetle Drive
