HAYLE FILM CLUB:

The next film, Amy, is being shown on Thursday January 28 at 7.30pm

Continuing a musical theme for January, HFC is showing Amy, Asif Kapadia's Oscar-nominated documentary of the life of Amy Winehouse. Everyone remembers the chaotic stick-thin addict of later years, or the the beehived and tattooed diva, but this film goes back to the unaffected, fresh-faced, and extraordinarily talented teenager steeped in jazz classics, and takes us from that to her tragically early death. As in his previous work, Senna, Kapadia shows us all the turns of this messy journey through contemporary footage, much of it personal and previously unseen. Some parts are funny and charming, others undeniably painful, making this a film that is hard to watch at times, but harder not to, and praised by critics and audiences equally. (128 min, rated 15.)

As ever, at the Passmore Edwards Institute, house lights down at 7.30pm. Tickets at £5/£4 for members, reserve on 01736 752319, or book online at www.haylefilmclub.org.uk
