HAYLE PENWITH U3A:

Hayle U3A has the following programme this week.  Today, Thursday August 4, at 10am there is History (note there will be no Writing during August) and the Summer Outing takes place - a boat trip ‘up the creek' on the river Fal. On Tuesday August 9 at 10am there is Art and at 2pm Poetry Reading. All sessions except Writing are held in the Philip Smith annexe to the Hayle Day Care Centre.  The Writing is held in Hayle Library.

CORNWALL COUNCIL:

Hayle is represented by two Cornwall Councillors and both are always eager to hear from residents. John Coombe is on Hayle 752831. You can contact John Pollard on 07967272808.  As usual there is no surgery in August so the next surgery will be on Saturday September 3 and then Saturday October 1.

Surgeries are held between 10am and noon at the Hayle Library/One Stop Shop, Commercial Road Hayle.

SUMMER BAZAAR:

Penwith parish Catholic church's, annual Summer Fayre, takes place today, Thursday August 4, at St Ives Catholic church, Tregenna Hill [ just along from the bus station] between 10am and 2pm. Stalls of good bric-a-brac, jewellery, fancy goods, DVD's, CD's, Cakes, books & lots more. Refreshments available. Come along for the many bargains on sale.

MAN ENGINE:

Perhaps you have already heard about the largest mechanical puppet ever constructed in Britain?  This giant miner will be visiting Hayle today Thursday August 4 to celebrate the ‘tinth' anniversary of the Cornish Mining Landscape World Heritage Site.  Harvey's Foundry Trust is working in partnership with the Man Engine organisers Goldentree and Hayle Town Council to support the event in making it one to remember.  There is already considerable local and national media interest in the event and they hope you too will come to Hayle to meet the Man Engine on his epic journey.

There will be road closures in place on the day. Foundry Square from Chapel Terrace through to B3302 will be closed from 4pm until 10pm.  Diversions will be put in place to provide alternative routes.

Please come along and join in the fun as it's going to be a night to remember in Hayle, with the Man Engine Transformation at 7pm.  Everyone is asked to park sensibly or come by train or bus to save congestion.

 

SMUGGLERS INN:

On Friday August 5 there is live entertainment from "Hand Picked" Acoustic Excellence featuring Mic McCreadie and Adrian O'Reilly from 8pm.

Saturday Steak night 6 to 9pm. Booking advisable.

On Sunday August 7 the weekly quiz, bingo and meat raffle takes place from 8pm.

On Monday August 8. Acoustic sessions from 7.30pm. Everyone welcome to listen or why not bring your instrument and join in.

FUN DOG SHOW:

A fun dog show will be part of the Hayle Lions Fun Day at Hayle Recreation Ground, on Sunday August 7, judging to start at 1pm with 22 classes 1st to 4th rosettes followed by BEST and RESERVE in show. £1 per entry to the ring with your dog.  Please bring chairs if required. PAINTING AND CRAFT EXHIBITION:

Hayle Art Society painting and craft exhibition is open until Sunday August 7, open from 10am to 6pm each day except Sunday 10am to 4pm and taking place in Phillack Church Hall. Each member of the group is allowed to display up to five original works of art, many of which will be for sale.  There will also be a variety of crafts by members of the group for sale.  This year there will again be a special table with work donated by members which will be for sale to raise funds for St Julia's Hospice in Hayle.

CORNISH CREAM TEA:

Hayle Friends of St. Julia's Hospice invite people to a Cornish Cream Tea on Sunday August 14 at 3pm, at St Eia, 5 Commrcial Road, Hayle, (opposite the war memorial). Come and enjoy the views over Copperhouse Pool. Cost £4.50 per person. Come along and support your local Hospice.

PEBBLE PAINTING:

Hayle Macmillan Cancer Support Fundraising Committee is holding £1 a go Pebble Painting activity events on Carbis Bay Beach from 11.30am to 4pm every Monday for the next three weeks.

PHILLACK CHURCH HALL:

Every Tuesday at 11:30am ZUMBA GOLD with Catherine, come along and have some fun.  Call 017436 711926 for more information.

HAYLE HERITAGE CENTRE:

Hayle Heritage Centre is now open for the summer season on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 11am and 4pm.  They are based on Foundry Square, on the historic site of Harvey's Foundry, and offer an insight into Hayle's rich social history. ST ELWYN'S CHURCH:

On Thursday August 4, Healthy Church event at Phillack Church 6pm for 6.30pm. This event is an opportunity to examine features of a healthy church and appreciate the good things that are already happening in churches. The session will be led by a facilitator from the Diocese of Truro. It is open to anyone who is interested, and all participants are welcome to contribute to the discussion. The aim is to share some of the most positive stories of church life.

On Saturday August 6, The Parish Programme: God's People at Gwinear Church 2pm to 4pm. The Parish Programme is the core of ADM, and everyone is invited. It focuses on five key themes, of which God's People is the first. It is a chance for churches to explore who they are, and what God has called them to do. If you would like to attend, please book with your church warden.

On Sunday August 7, the Eleventh Sunday after Trinity Sung Eucharist will be celebrated by Father Malcolm at 9.30am.

On Wednesday August 10, Said Eucharist will be celebrated by the Reverend Patricia Murley at 10am.  Tea, coffee and biscuits are served after each service.

 

ST.JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, HAYLE:

St Joseph's Church in Hayle is part of the Roman Catholic Parish of the Holy Family. Father Philip celebrated the 6.30pm Mass on Saturday July 30.

There will be NO Friday Mass this week.

A very successful cream tea took place in Penzance last week.  Despite the weather £250 was raised.

The festival painting "Sunrise" Smeaton's Pier by a local artist is still on display in St Ives.

Garden party and cream tea on Sunday August 21 at 2.30pm at 14 Heather Land in Canon's Town.

The Hayle Walk for Cornwall Hospice Care will take place on Sunday September 11.
