HAYLE FILM CLUB:
The Lady in the Van - Saturday April 9 at 7.30pm.
The ‘mostly true' story of playwright Alan Bennett and Mary Shepherd, the elderly homeless woman who parked her Bedford van outside his home in Camden for a few weeks and stayed until her death 15 years later. Maggie Smith first played the cantankerous, unstoppable Mary on stage 16 years ago, and makes her believably exasperating, inspiring, charming, and appalling, often all at the same time. Alex Jennings plays a bemused Bennett, gradually unpicking Mary's past and often asking himself why he has allowed this to happen - there are no easy answers. The well-heeled artsy neighbours include great performances from Frances de la Tour and Roger Allam. (104 mins, 12A).
As ever, at the Passmore Edwards Institute, house lights down at 7.30pm and home-baked refreshments after. Tickets are £5/£4 for members, reserve on 01736 752319, or book online at www.haylefilmclub.org.uk
OVER 65'S EVENT:
An over 65's event will take place on Thursday April 14 from 10am until 2pm at the Hayle Emergency Services Community Station. Come along for a chat, cuppa and cake! There will be a free raffle for all over 65's who come along with prizes donated by the various agencies who will be present and local businesses. The following people and organisations will be present to help provide answers for anything of interest: Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, Tri-Service Officer, Police, Trading Standards, Neighbourhood Watch, Tremorvah Industries, Age UK, Dementia Friends and Wiltshire Farm Foods.
