A woman in Helston has made a second donation to the town's community hospital, having raised £1,000 by selling homemade masks from the end of her driveway.

Having previously donated £1,250, Paula Julian has been busy sewing every day to raise more funds, and her husband Barry has also been involved cutting out for her.

League of Friends publicity officer Helen Nelson said: "I had a phone call this week to say that Paula had another £1,000 to donate.

"The patients of the Helston Community Hospital will benefit greatly from her generosity and we want to thank her so much.

"What a fantastic thing for her to do, £2,250 in total!"

Paula was inspired by the demand for face coverings during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and started selling masks she had made a couple of weeks after the UK lockdown began on March 23.

She was initially making the masks for care workers but as she also wanted to raise money for Helston Community Hospital she decided to begin selling them, with all proceeds going to the hospital's League of Friends.

Paula has produced a large array of different designs and colours and has made several to order for children.

The money raised will be used within the hospital to improve the stay of patients.
