Owner distraught after horrific acid attack on dog in Cornwall
Pharaoh hound Brea's owner said the vet told her he was treating it as an acid attack
A traumatised dog owner says she’s still in shock after a fellow dog walker poured acid over her beloved pet.
Lyn King, from Penzance, was out walking with her pharaoh hound Brea at Hayle Towans on Monday afternoon when the drama unfolded.
She said: “I was out with my friend and we walked past a woman with two dogs, a little one in a rucksack and a terrier type dog in front.
“Brea went to play and the woman said ‘get your dog away’. I said he just wants to play but she again said ‘get your dog away’ so we started walking away.
“All of a sudden I heard Brea crying so I went back and Brea was there trying to get his harness off. Brea had never done that before and was just standing there shaking.
“I said to the woman, 'what’s happening?' She said she didn’t know and shot off.”
Lyn, in her sixties, said that when she got home she tried to cuddle Brea but he wouldn’t let her close.
She added: “I managed to pull him into me and my hand was just covered in blood. It was horrible.
“I phoned the vets and we went the next morning and the vet said he was treating him for an acid burn. He’s got steroids and antibiotics but still isn’t himself.
“He’s very cautious of people whereas previously he was very friendly. Since the acid attack he’s been so quiet and withdrawn.
“Something needs to be done. How can someone do this to such a handsome and beautiful animal? And why would she want to carry such a thing on her? It was a nasty attack.”
Lyn says it all happened so fast that she didn’t get a clear look at the woman but said she was in her thirties and carrying one small dog in the rucksack and had the terrier alongside her.
The matter has been reported to Devon and Cornwall Police. Anybody with information can call 101.
