Firefighters faced a 300 metre long wall of fire when the high gorse was set alight yesterday evening.

A bonfire got out of control when it spread to a large area of gorse on the Gwithian road between Camborne and Hayle.

Three crews from Tolvaddon and Hayle fire stations had to transfer water from a nearby stream using a light portable pump, as well as shuttle it from a nearby hydrant.

At 11pm, just over two hours after being first called out at 8.47pm, the firefighters were described as "making steady progress", using two main jets and two hose reel jets.

Crews are returning early this morning to check for hotspots.
