East Quay and North Quay in Hayle which have recently been sold

REDEVELOPMENT of Hayle Harbour could be set to change as the site is transferred to new ownership.

Corinthian Land confirmed purchase of the harbour as Dutch firm ING sold off the last of its assets in Hayle.

The Kent-based land management company now controls most of the harbour area, excluding the central section of South Quay, which includes the transfer of outline planning permission for 870 homes.

Simon Wright, from Corinthian, said there was room for commercial and tourism growth in the harbour but it was too early to comment on detailed plans.  read more »

Sluicing returns

New sluice gates have been fitted to Carnsew Basin in Hayle as part of the plans to resume a sluicing regime, part of the South Quay development by ING.

The sluice pools and sluice gates in Hayle traditionally played a major part in deepening and straightening the navigation channel from the bay into the port of Hayle, and maintained that depth to allow bigger ships and more commerce for the port. This in turn increased the success and wealth of the rival Cornish Copper Company and Harveys of Hayle, which led to greater investment and development of technology and business which helped Hayle play its part in the Industrial Revolution.  read more »

Simon Humphrey was not present and no report had been supplied.

It was reported that it was now not possible to build the bridge across Penpol Creek until early 2015, due to technical difficulties. The responsibility for the future maintenance of the bridge was also raised as an important issue that needed clarification. The Clerk reported that Simon Clarke would bring the necessary information to the Town Council as soon as it was available.
